NEET PG counselling, step by step

How MCC fills MD, MS and diploma seats, what it costs to register, when each 2026 round happens and what to carry when you report.

NEET PG 2026 counselling is under way. Round 1 results came out on 24 October; Round 2 registration is scheduled for 6 to 11 November.

What MCC counsels

  • All India Quota. 50% of MD, MS and diploma seats in every state government medical college. No domicile needed.
  • Deemed universities. 100% of PG seats, open to every state, including NRI quota seats.
  • Central universities and institutions. PG seats at institutions such as BHU, AMU and Delhi University colleges, as listed in the MCC seat matrix.
  • Armed Forces Medical Services. AFMS registration for in-service candidates runs alongside MCC counselling.

The other 50% of government seats, and seats in private colleges, are filled by each state's own PG counselling.

How MCC PG counselling works

  1. Step 1

    Register and pay

Register on mcc.nic.in with your NEET PG roll number and pay the registration fee and security deposit for the quotas you want.

  2. Step 2

    Fill and lock choices

List colleges and branches in order of preference. Choices left unlocked are locked automatically when the window closes.

  3. Step 3

    Seat allotment

MCC allots seats by rank and preference. Check the result and your allotment letter on mcc.nic.in.

  4. Step 4

    Report or upgrade

Report to the allotted college with original documents within the reporting window, or choose to stay in for an upgrade in the next round under the rules for that round.

Registration fee and security deposit

QuotaFeeDeposit
All India Quota and central: General₹1,000₹25,000
All India Quota and central: SC, ST, OBC, PwD₹500₹10,000
Deemed universities₹5,000₹2,00,000

The registration fee is not refundable. The security deposit is refunded after counselling, but you can lose them if you take a seat in a later round and don't join, or resign it outside the allowed window. Read the MCC PG information bulletin for this year's exact rules before locking choices.

Documents to carry when reporting

  • NEET PG 2026 scorecard and admit card
  • MBBS mark sheets for all professional years and the MBBS degree or provisional certificate
  • Internship completion certificate
  • Permanent or provisional registration with NMC or a State Medical Council
  • Class 10 certificate or birth certificate for date of birth
  • Category certificate (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS) and PwBD certificate, if you are applying under one
  • Domicile certificate, for state quota counselling
  • Government photo ID and passport-size photographs
  • Allotment letter from MCC or the state authority

Choosing a branch

  • Look at the closing rank for a branch at each college over the last two years, not just this year's.
  • Compare total cost: deemed and private PG fees can be many times government fees, and deemed seats need a ₹2 lakh deposit.
  • Check the stipend and any service bond for state seats; both differ a lot between states.
  • A clinical branch at a smaller college can be a better choice than a non-clinical branch at a famous one, if clinical practice is your goal.

Common questions

How many rounds are there in MCC NEET PG counselling?

Four: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and an online stray vacancy round. In 2026 they run from October to December.

Why is the deemed university deposit so high?

MCC charges a refundable ₹2 lakh deposit for deemed universities to discourage candidates from blocking seats they don't intend to take.

Is state counselling at the same time as MCC?

Usually it starts a little after each MCC round, so that seats given up in MCC can flow into state rounds. Each state publishes its own schedule.
