What MBBS really costs: India vs abroad
Government, private, deemed and abroad seats compared, with official 2026-27 fees.
What does an MBBS seat really cost? The answer runs from under ₹3 lakh to more than ₹1.5 crore, depending on where you get a seat. These are official 2026-27 figures from the fee notices on our site.
Government seat (state quota)
Tuition per year from each state's fee notice, and roughly what 4.5 years of study costs (the internship year is paid). Hostel and mess are extra.
| State | Tuition / year | 4.5 years |
|---|---|---|
| Karnataka (most govt colleges) | ₹64,350 | ₹2.9 lakh |
| Rajasthan | ₹70,400 | ₹3.2 lakh |
| Haryana (year 1) | ₹80,000 | ₹3.6 lakh |
| Madhya Pradesh | ₹1,00,000 | ₹4.5 lakh |
| Kerala | ₹1,19,835 | ₹5.4 lakh |
| Maharashtra (DMER, open category) | ₹1,62,100 | ₹7.3 lakh |
| Punjab (year 1) | ₹2,02,000 | ₹9.1 lakh |
| Gujarat (GMERS govt quota) | ₹3,75,000 | ₹16.9 lakh |
Private college (state counselling)
Fixed each year by each state's fee committee: for example, about ₹11–20 lakh a year in Uttar Pradesh (2025-26), ₹12 lakh+ in Haryana, ₹6–15.5 lakh in Maharashtra and ₹12 lakh for private-quota seats in Karnataka, so roughly ₹35 lakh to ₹1 crore for the course. See your state's page.
Deemed university (MCC)

MBBS abroad
Total for six years, tuition and hostel, at the universities we work with (2026 fees):
| Country | Universities | Full course |
|---|---|---|
| Kyrgyzstan | 10 | ₹21.3 – ₹34.3 lakh |
| Uzbekistan | 8 | ₹22.7 – ₹32.5 lakh |
| Russia | 14 | ₹23.9 – ₹46.7 lakh |
| Kazakhstan | 7 | ₹32.8 – ₹48.5 lakh |
Abroad, you must meet NMC's rules: NEET qualified, at least 54 months of study plus a 12-month internship at the same university in English, then FMGE (or NExT when it applies) and a 12-month internship in India. Read NMC rules for MBBS abroad.
Work out your own numbers: the MBBS fee and loan calculator adds hostel and yearly fee rises, and shows the education-loan EMI.
Is MBBS abroad cheaper than a private college in India?
Often, yes, in fees: the universities we list cost ₹21.3 lakh to ₹48.5 lakh for six years including hostel, while private and deemed colleges in India usually cost more in tuition alone. But abroad you also need to clear FMGE (or NExT) and a 12-month internship in India, and travel and food add up.
Which is the cheapest way to become a doctor in India?
A government seat, through MCC's All India Quota or your state's quota. Tuition is a few thousand rupees to a few lakh a year. It needs a high rank, and some states add a service bond.
Are these the full costs?
No. They're tuition (and hostel for abroad). Add hostel, mess, books, deposits and travel in India; food, flights, visa and insurance abroad. Use the calculator for your own numbers.
