Free exit and seat resignation rules in MCC counselling 2026

Every point below links to its official source.

Key facts

  1. Round 1 comes with a free exit. A candidate who doesn't want the Round 1 seat can leave without losing the security deposit and still take part in Round 2. [1]
  2. Exit with forfeiture means a candidate allotted a seat in Round 2 or a later round can leave it, but loses the security deposit. [1]
  3. A candidate who joins a Round 2 seat and then resigns loses the security deposit. To join Round 3 after that, they must pay the security deposit again. [1]
  4. A Round 3 seat cannot be resigned or vacated once joined. A Round 3 allottee who exits with forfeiture is removed from further rounds. [1]
  5. All resignations go through MCC online; offline resignation is not allowed. Freeze candidates resign in person at the allotted institute, and Float candidates resign through 'Withdrawal (Resignation)' in their MCC login. [1]
  6. A candidate who joined an AIQ seat and then wants a state counselling seat must surrender the AIQ seat by resigning: Round 1 is a free exit, Round 2 means forfeiture. [1]
  7. On 17.09.2026 MCC reopened resignation for Round 1 and Round 2 Freeze/Float (not upgraded) candidates until 6 PM on 18.09.2026. These resignations carried forfeiture of the security deposit, and resignations not generated online were treated as null and void. [2]
  8. Once a seat is resigned or surrendered, the candidate has no claim on it. [1]
  9. If wrong information leads to an admission being cancelled, or the candidate cannot produce the required documents in time, the security deposit is also forfeited. [1]
