Management quota in private medical colleges: how it works
Every point below links to its official source.
Key facts
- All MBBS seats are filled through NEET UG, including state/self-financed merit seats and NRI quota seats in private colleges and private universities. [1]
- Counselling for seats controlled by state governments, state universities and institutions (including private colleges under them) is run by the state's designated authority, not MCC. [1]
- Admission to private medical colleges follows Central, state and UT policies. [1]
- In Tamil Nadu, the state Selection Committee runs management quota counselling online from the NEET UG 2026 merit list. [2]
- Tamil Nadu's seat-sharing is 65:35 (government:management) in non-minority self-financing colleges and 50:50 in minority colleges. [2]
- Tamil Nadu's 2026 management quota MBBS fee in self-financing colleges was listed at Rs 15–16.2 lakh a year, with a Rs 1 lakh deposit at registration and a Rs 10 lakh discontinuation fee. [2]
- Careers360 notes that in states 'closed' to outsiders, private colleges mostly admit state residents but generally keep management quota seats open to other-state students. [3]
- Management quota candidates still need NEET's qualifying percentile, 50th for General (40th for SC/ST/OBC), as stated in Tamil Nadu's 2026 management prospectus. [2]
