Choice filling and locking in MCC counselling
Every point below links to its official source.
Key facts
- There is no limit on the number of choices; candidates can list as many colleges and courses as they want, in order of preference. [1]
- One common choice-filling system covers AIQ, deemed, central universities, B.Sc Nursing, AIIMS, JIPMER, AMU and BHU. [1]
- Saved choices can be changed until locked. Once locked they cannot be changed even by MCC, and unlocked choices are locked automatically when the window closes. [1]
- Only candidates who have registered and paid the full fee can fill choices; anyone who doesn't register and fill choices in the window gets no seat. [1]
- Each later round needs fresh choices, and an upgrade cancels the earlier seat, so MCC advises listing only colleges you prefer over your current seat. [1]
- MCC suggests making a tentative preference list from the seat matrix first, and checking past years' opening and closing ranks on the MCC website as a guide (not a guarantee). [1]
- Candidates should check fees, bond, stipend and other conditions with colleges before choice filling, because allotment is final and locked choices cannot be changed. [1]
- A one-time 'reset' option lets a candidate who chose the wrong quota (such as deemed instead of AIQ) start over, but they must register again with full fee. [1]
- MCC advises using a laptop or computer with an up-to-date browser, and using the Sandes app for OTPs to the mobile number registered with NTA. [1]

How many choices should I fill?
MCC sets no limit. Since choices are allotted strictly by merit and order, list every college you'd genuinely accept, in true order of preference.
What if I forget to lock?
The system locks saved choices automatically when the window closes, but MCC recommends locking yourself and printing the locked list.
