NEET for BPT: deferred to 2027-28
- NCAHP letter File No. Z-1011/2026/NCAHP(AHS), dated 02-03-2026 to UGC and signed by Under Secretary Rajender Singh Sidhu, deferred the mandatory NEET (UG) requirement for B.PT and B.OT to academic year 2027-28.
- NCAHP said NTA and the Health Ministry had warned that adding BPT/BOT to the already advanced NEET (UG) 2026 could cause an unexpected rise in candidates and logistical problems.
- For 2026-27 NCAHP directed that the BPT/BOT merit list be prepared on aggregate Physics, Chemistry and Biology marks in Class 12.
- The NCAHP-adapted regulation says that once NEET applies, candidates need only appear in NEET, with no minimum qualifying mark or cut-off percentile.
Eligibility and duration
- BPT and BOT are listed professions under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021, and NCAHP sets their admission criteria.
- NCAHP requires 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Botany and Zoology) and English, with 50% aggregate in PCB for General/EWS and 40% for SC, ST, OBC-NCL and PwBD.
- The NCAHP-adapted BPT regulation requires the candidate to be 17 at admission or by 31 December of the admission year.
- A university BPT regulation adapted from NCAHP for 2026-27 sets four academic years plus a one-year full-time rotatory internship, five years in total.
- Tamil Nadu's 2026-27 allied health prospectus lists BPT as four academic years plus a one-year compulsory rotatory internship (five years).
- Kerala's modified 2026-27 prospectus lists BPT as five years including a one-year internship (annual scheme).
