NEET UG 2026 tie-breaking rules
Every point below links to its official source.
Key facts
- When two or more candidates have equal NEET UG 2026 marks or percentiles, ties are broken first by higher marks/percentile in Biology (Botany and Zoology). [1]
- If still tied, the candidate with higher marks/percentile in Chemistry ranks higher, then the one with higher marks in Physics. [1]
- Next, the candidate with the lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers across all subjects ranks higher. [1]
- If still tied, the lower incorrect-to-correct ratio is compared in Biology, then Chemistry, then Physics. [1]
- If all these criteria are exhausted, the tie is settled by a random process guided by an independent expert committee. [1]
- These rules follow NMC/UGMEB's public notice dated 13.06.2023 and an NMC email dated 28.01.2026. [1]
- NTA gives only the All India Rank; counselling authorities draw up category merit lists from it. [1]
